With Chinese New Year 2025 approaching, the Malaysian Ministry of Transport has implemented specific driving restrictions(Road Ban) for goods vehicles. These measures aim to alleviate road congestion and ensure the safety of all road users during this busy festive period. If you’re a truck driver or logistics provider, here’s a detailed breakdown of the restrictions to help you plan ahead.
Driving Restriction Dates
The restrictions will be enforced on the following dates:
27 & 28 January 2025 (Before CNY)
1 & 2 February 2025 (After CNY)
Ensure your deliveries and logistics are planned to avoid disruptions on these days.
Category 1: Full-Day Movement Ban
Applies to heavy vehicles like car carriers, bulk cement tankers, and logging trucks, as well as vehicles transporting construction materials such as cement, steel, sand, and coal.
Category 2: Limited Movement (12:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.)
Restrictions apply to:
- Container lorries transporting goods outside of ports, airports, or industrial zones.
- Vehicles transporting electronic items or raw materials between industrial hubs.
- Loose cargo vehicles and construction material transporters.
Category 3: Limited Movement for Certain Vehicles
This category specifically restricts cranes and cement mixer lorries during the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. However, there’s an important area limitation:
- 25km Radius Limit
These vehicles are only permitted to operate within a 25km radius of construction or project sites that have been approved by authorities.Operators must ensure their vehicles remain within this restricted zone to comply with the rules.
This measure helps minimize congestion caused by heavy machinery in highly populated areas during peak travel times.
Exemptions and Special Notes
- Heavy cranes and lorries are permitted for emergency work only.
- Goods vehicles not listed under these categories must adhere to standard driving guidelines.
To avoid delays and penalties, it’s crucial for logistics companies and drivers to plan their trips ahead. Adhering to these restrictions not only ensures compliance with the law but also contributes to a safer and more efficient transportation system during the Chinese New Year celebrations.
